I decided to go back and dig out my very first 'before Beachbody' pictures from my start of Slim in 6, about 2 months after I had Amalia. I remember joining my first challenge group completely clueless, having no idea what I was doing, had never done a home fitness program before and I had never even heard of Shakeology or clean eating! But I knew after having 4 kids in 6 years that it was TIME to reclaim my health and my body, so I was IN! 
We didn't want to spend the money for me to join a gym and with 4 small kids at home I wasn't about to pack them up and cart them to the gym!! I didn't have a workout space in the house, so I pushed aside the coffee table in our little family room and got to work. 
Every afternoon when I put the kids down for a nap I pressed play! It was tough, I was out of shape, I didn't think my body would ever change or go back to the way it was - I wanted to quit! But my desire to change was stronger than any other thoughts in my mind. 
So every day I pushed play, I had faith in the process! I knew that if I followed the workout calendar and the nutrition guide I would get results. It was tested and proven! I also had no idea how much nutrition played into my results - a good 80%!!! So I learned about "clean eating" and we revamped the whole family's diet. Dave lost 20 lbs in 2.5 months just from changing his diet - no workouts yet!! 
So 6 weeks later after Slim in 6, 22 lbs and 20" gone, faith in the process, and a genuine love for challenge groups and coaching, I became a believer! I was skeptical that a home fitness program would work but honestly when you make fitness, nutrition, and accountability the way that Beachbody does, the only way you won't succeed is if you don't follow the plan!!!! It's that simple - it comes down to your discipline! (and an awesome group of like-minded people to support you!)


The cool part is that I get to inspire hope and change in others now too!

New Design Your Life 30 Day Coach Internship Starts 9/8!

If you've been following me since I started coaching last year, you know how much it has changed my life! I've been able to retire from teaching and stay home with our four children. My hope is to pay it forward and show others how they can also take control of their lives and start living a life by their design.

Coaching is much more than supporting people on their health and fitness journeys. It's daily personal development, committing to your own health and fitness, helping your team reach THEIR goals, dropping old beliefs about yourself so that you can shine and share your unique gifts with world, and taking responsibility for and control of your life. Sunday Morning Clean Eating Pancakes with Strawberry Sauce

We have a tradition of Sunday Morning pancakes in the Milligan house. We used to make them from a box mix and had some fake syrup to accompany them. YUCK! But we changed to clean eating over a year ago and follow a 90/10 rule, eating clean about 90% of the time. We came up with a MUCH healthier and cleaner version for our Sunday pancakes than the boxed junk. Go to your pantry and throw that stuff out - it's loaded with preservatives. Not only is making your own pancake mix healthier, it will save you money too! We usually double this recipe if we'd like to have pancakes left over for our family of 6. The kids like to heat them up the next day! We also offer them real maple syrup, but they usually gobble up the strawberry sauce. Enjoy!

Trader Joe's and the 21 Day Fix

What to buy at Trader Joe's for the 21 Day Fix

I've been getting a lot of questions about what I buy when I go to Trader Joe's that is "clean," how I shop for the 21 Day Fix at TJ's and could I please post what I get! So, here ya go! 

I do 95% of my shopping at TJ's, so I'll take you through what I get in a typical week. I shop every Sunday so I can prep for the week, but I make it EASY. I don't have time for complicated recipes and fancy pants food (even though I like fancy pants food!).

I'll focus on the 21 Day Fix, since that is clean eating anyway!

The Fix comes with these color coded containers that tell you how much of each food group to eat for YOUR body. Everyone is different and everyone will be eating a different number of each container per day. 

What I do to make my life easy is choose 3-5 foods from each food group that I'd like to eat that week and shop for those on Sunday. There is a long list of foods for each food group to choose from, but I will just post what I like to eat in each one and the foods I find at Trader Joe's. If there is an organic option, that's what I buy.


The Containers…

The GREEN container is veggies and I buy baby bok choy (recipe here, YUM!), asparagus, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, baby carrots, peppers, and green beans. I sauté a bunch of veggies together on Sunday so I have a veggie mix ready to add to eggs, salads, brown rice pasta, etc. Check out the Veggie Stir Fry recipe.


The PURPLE container is for fruit and I usually stick with a banana in my Shakeology, apples, kiwi, and cantaloupe.

The RED container is protein - and yes, you need to eat all of those containers of protein, your body needs it! I fill mine with organic chicken, 1% Greek yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, and Shakeology counts as 1 red container, too. I am not a big meat fan, but these work for me just fine!

Veggie stir fry with eggs and feta. 

The YELLOW container is carbs - but they need to be GOOD carbs! I usually fill my yellow containers with steel cut oatmeal, lentils, sweet potatoes, quinoa or brown rice. 


The BLUE container is healthy fats and I like avocado, raw walnut halves, feta cheese, hummus, and cheddar cheese once in a while. 

The ORANGE container is seeds, homemade salad dressings, etc. I use 1 container of dressing each day using grapeseed or olive oil, dijon mustard, and balsamic vinegar with spices. Also pictured is salsa (no sugar added!), raw honey (allowed in moderation), apple cider vinegar (SO good for you, add to dressing), and garlic flavored olive oil. 


On the 21 Day Fix program, you also get 2-5 teaspoons of oils or nut butters each day. I use my 2 teaspoons for almond butter, also found at Trader Joe's - no salt or sugar added, just almonds!

21 Day Fix Challenge Pack Sale Extension!


The 21 Day Fix Challenge Pack price was just extended through Sunday night! Sweet!

I started the Fix program last Monday and I'm down 3 lbs in one week. The portion control containers are an awesome tool to know how much to eat of which food group. You'll eventually be able to eyeball the amounts and the process becomes easier to know what goes in which container.
