Trader Joe's and the 21 Day Fix

What to buy at Trader Joe's for the 21 Day Fix

I've been getting a lot of questions about what I buy when I go to Trader Joe's that is "clean," how I shop for the 21 Day Fix at TJ's and could I please post what I get! So, here ya go! 

I do 95% of my shopping at TJ's, so I'll take you through what I get in a typical week. I shop every Sunday so I can prep for the week, but I make it EASY. I don't have time for complicated recipes and fancy pants food (even though I like fancy pants food!).

I'll focus on the 21 Day Fix, since that is clean eating anyway!

The Fix comes with these color coded containers that tell you how much of each food group to eat for YOUR body. Everyone is different and everyone will be eating a different number of each container per day. 

What I do to make my life easy is choose 3-5 foods from each food group that I'd like to eat that week and shop for those on Sunday. There is a long list of foods for each food group to choose from, but I will just post what I like to eat in each one and the foods I find at Trader Joe's. If there is an organic option, that's what I buy.


The Containers…

The GREEN container is veggies and I buy baby bok choy (recipe here, YUM!), asparagus, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, baby carrots, peppers, and green beans. I sauté a bunch of veggies together on Sunday so I have a veggie mix ready to add to eggs, salads, brown rice pasta, etc. Check out the Veggie Stir Fry recipe.


The PURPLE container is for fruit and I usually stick with a banana in my Shakeology, apples, kiwi, and cantaloupe.

The RED container is protein - and yes, you need to eat all of those containers of protein, your body needs it! I fill mine with organic chicken, 1% Greek yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, and Shakeology counts as 1 red container, too. I am not a big meat fan, but these work for me just fine!

The YELLOW container is carbs - but they need to be GOOD carbs! I usually fill my yellow containers with steel cut oatmeal, lentils, sweet potatoes, quinoa or brown rice. 


The BLUE container is healthy fats and I like avocado, raw walnut halves, feta cheese, hummus, and cheddar cheese once in a while. 

The ORANGE container is seeds, homemade salad dressings, etc. I use 1 container of dressing each day using grapeseed or olive oil, dijon mustard, and balsamic vinegar with spices. Also pictured is salsa (no sugar added!), raw honey (allowed in moderation), apple cider vinegar (SO good for you, add to dressing), and garlic flavored olive oil. 


On the 21 Day Fix program, you also get 2-5 teaspoons of oils or nut butters each day. I use my 2 teaspoons for almond butter, also found at Trader Joe's - no salt or sugar added, just almonds!
